What a pretentious exercise, thinking that a portion of my life story could inspire anyone else. But... I have been consistently encouraged to tell my story by people with big life experiences of their own. Besides, I am far past the fear of nearly anything, including being an amateur. The truth is that my survival through concurrent leukemia and heart disease is shockingly rare. My level of recovery borders on the impossible. Consequently, I wrote this story for cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and anyone else touched by life’s overwhelming challenges.
Editors said that I could self-publish a truly professional version of my story for a few tens of thousands of dollars and about 18 to 24 months of effort. However, the real publishing houses rarely pick up self-published work, so it would not likely ever reach a broad audience. Going directly to those publishing houses requires an agent, a self-created marketing campaign, and an even longer wait, all still with no guarantees. Given that every day I wake up is a gift, these time frames are not reasonable. In sum, I could spend thousands of dollars, die, and you never get the benefit of my story.
So I am putting it here for free: An Imminent Unknown
No monetary agenda. In its rough, first-draft manuscript version. If you have the means to help make it an actual book, let me know, but in the meantime there is suffering that can be alleviated. Stoic silence is ridiculous. It would be inhuman to not do this.
If this manuscript helps, please let me know. And also remember that I will travel to anywhere in the world to support this effort – from one-on-one at a bedside to an auditorium audience – all as I have done before.
My best to you all-
