I am Instructor and Instructional Designer with twenty-five years of experience in environmental science and sustainability, all in higher education, including community colleges, universities public and private, and a university system. Courses included both curriculum and continuing education. In addition to providing thousands of lectures and presentations, I have designed and taught more than 200 sections of online environmental classes. In addition, I have reviewed and provided oversight for dozens of online science courses. Design work has ranged from individual instructional modules, to entire courses, curricula and physical facilities. I am a leader in the concept of “flipping the instructor”, having administered online courses while ground-truthing environmental issues on four continents. Through my studio and other projects, I embed experiments in low-footprint lifestyles into my online courses, proving that these concepts are more than theories in an expensive textbook.
