I am an accomplished speaker, university lecturer, and radical survivor. Looking back at my adventures and challenges, I realize they are a call for boldness, courage and acceptance as a means for overcoming enormous obstacles. I am proof that we are capable of more than we – or others – may imagine.
I spent years exploring alternative lifestyle strategies to promote social responsibility and sustainability. These experiences alone are worthy of a lifetime of stories. But my greatest challenge was in tackling devastating disease and personal loss, underscoring the need to live the most authentic and beautiful life possible.
Students and audiences like my relaxed and entertaining style, which should be no surprise. I have been doing this for over twenty years! I also know that the stories of my extraordinary life experiences will leave you crying and laughing - as they do me when I tell them.
From a single person to a TED-style presentation, my every audience knows that we are all part of the intimate experience of storytelling. I reframe ideas that don't serve us well with those that do, especially in extreme circumstances, such as replacing the notion of imminent death with imminent life. You can find inspiring stories of climbing Everest and Kilimanjaro elsewhere. My passion is in the daily epic adventures that make an extraordinary life, the kind of life that is accessible to nearly all survivors of daunting circumstances. Those adventures were what covered the walls of my hospital rooms. And I know this all to be true because I have lived it.
If this is the kind of inspiration you need, authentic, unstaged, and connected, let me inspire you to become the hero of your own extraordinary life.
