One of my doctors referred to preparing for my stem cell transplant as training for the Olympics. Finally, a doctor who says do more, not less. Those were words I could latch onto, so I have. I have twelve days left to live intact and I will not waste them.
Thirteen days ago I was so weak from chemotherapy that I needed a blood transfusion. We were concerned that the leukemia had returned. Suddenly I got better. For the last week I have walked or run at least four miles a day. And today I finally ran in my glorious INOV-8 Talons, the kind of shoes for trails that leave you dirty and bloody and perfect. OK, trails in Sonoma County are too refined, no real sense of danger. Even so, today involved a nice little bit through the majestic oaks of Foothills Regional Park in Windsor, CA. My shoes were yawning.
